How to clean and maintain a rug

Cleaning and maintaining a rug in a good condition is not a very hard job to do if you are doing it correctly. Cleaning a rug is kind of like exercise. If you do it the right way, in a perfect routine and maintain that routine without breaking it in the middle, then you will be able to see much more cleanliness and good looks for your carpets. If you understand the correct way of cleaning and maintaining a rug, then it can help you save some of your valuable time too.

Stop dirt from entering your house

The first thing that you should do to maintain a good looking rug, is not letting it get dirty as much as possible. If you can stop the dirt at the doorsteps of your house it will be very easy to maintain and also clean the rug. You can begin by stop using shoes inside the house. If you can place a shoe rack on the doorsteps and remove your shoes before you enter the house, it will definitely help stop a lot of dirt from entering the house. Since dirt that comes from the outside of the house is the main cause of rugs becoming dirty, stopping it will save you a lot of time when cleaning the rugs.

Vacuum rugs, regularly

Vacuuming rugs should be done on a regular basis to keep them clean and good looking. Vacuuming is the easiest thing that you can do to keep your rug in good shape. If it is a small size rug then you can start by turning the rug upside down and vacuuming the back of it. Then you can beat it to get the trapped dirt on to the top of your rug. Then you can turn the right side up and vacuum it again to finish the vacuuming. If your rugs are set with fringes, then you should be more careful when vacuuming the edges of your rug. Start by using gentle suction mode and start vacuuming from the centre of the rug. Then vacuum towards the edges with fringes and be careful not to catch the fringes with the beater bar. Then lift the edges of your rug to vacuum beneath the fringe.

Clean up the spills and stains as soon as they take place on the rug

Spills and stains are some of the things that can destroy the cleanliness and good looks of your rug. You should make sure to clean up any spill or stain as soon as they occur. You can either blot or scrape the spill up depending on the type of it. When it is a blot, use a white dry cotton towel to remove the spill. Press it down hard towards the middle of the spill from the outside. Do this process repeatedly until you have absorbed the moisture as much as possible. Make sure to move your towel in straight lines. Never rub the spill in circles because sometimes it can cause permanent damages to your rug.
